BOOTCAMP Questions Answered

What’s the format of a daily workout look like?

No workout session is repeated during a four-week cycle. We keep your interest and your curiosity levels high in anticipation of the workouts.  The coach will always brief the team and include demonstrations of the exercises to be performed. When you arrive you should warm up and stretch until formation time. Our warm-ups consist of calisthenics and flexibility exercises to prepare your body for the upcoming session. We also allow time for a cool-down session after each workout. You will enjoy the combination of personal attention and social interaction that CrossFit Auckland XLR8 BOOTCAMP allows.

What if I can’t perform a certain exercise?

We will instruct you how to perform a modified version of the exercise as an alternative. This will develop the required strength and skill progressing you toward the prescribed exercise.

Will you yell at us?

We convince and encourage. We aim to keep you focused on the task at hand. If we yell, it is to be heard in an outdoor environment.

Can I bring a buddy?

Yes, you may bring a buddy for a free trial session. Your buddy will need to sign a waiver upon arriving to boot camp. Be sure they come prepared with the necessary items.

What do I need to bring?

You’ll need water, a towel, and running or cross training shoes, comfortable training clothes, sunscreen in the summer and gloves, a hat or beanie, and layered clothing in the winter.

You may even want to pack a spare set of trainers and clothes to change into post workout.

After I am registered for boot camp, can I attend at another location?

Yes, if you signed on as an unlimited club member, you’re able to attend offsite boot camp programmes, as well as CrossFit Auckland XLR8 and WODs (workout of the day) advertised on the CrossFit Auckland timetable.

If you signed on just for boot camp, you are able to attend other workouts by booking in advance and purchasing a casual session.  If this is something you would like to do on a regular basis, we encourage you to upgrade your membership.

What about the weather?

If we cancel a session on site due to ‘extreme’ weather conditions – we will give you a session credit to attend a CrossFit Auckland WOD of your choice.

Who can/should attend?

CrossFit Auckland XLR8 BOOTCAMP is designed for all fitness levels, sizes and ages (16+). You don’t have to be fit to start; you join to get fit.

This programme is not suitable for those with a condition or injury that would put themselves or others at risk of harm during the course of a training session. If in doubt consult your GP or specialist for a full medical screening prior to commencing any exercise routine.

How do you measure results?

Our assessments are based upon the Army’s physical fitness standards, max push-ups, max sit-ups and 2.4km timed run.

Because the programme is ongoing, we run the fitness test every 8 weeks, which will give you a benchmark to measure against.  You don’t have to wait for the fitness test to get started with CrossFit Auckland XLR8 BOOTCAMP.

We also encourage members to keep a training logbook to track your daily workouts.  You will feel and see the results, but looking back to where you started and seeing how far you’ve progressed is very rewarding.  We’re big on recording data – it never lies!

If evidence of fat loss or increased lean muscle is important to you, skin fold and girth measurements are available at an additional fee.  1-on-1 nutrition consultations are also available with Julianne Taylor who will assist you to achieve your nutritional goals.
